Gear check, shipping bike

Sorry, forgot the pics!

Well, after nearly purchasing the two LHT’s in TX, I’ve begun to look at the $200 to ship my bike and trailer as ‘chump change’. So, today, I’ll take Itzhak to REI to have him packed and shipped.

Over the weekend, I did get my 32 mile ride in on Sat. and then on Sunday, John and I went to the Capital trail in Charles City County. You know we ride this often and we were very happy to have chosen yesterday. There is one major stressor in my life right now, and Sunday, I needed some relief. The flowers were blooming everywhere and the ride was everything I have come to expect it to be.

The jonquils were spectacular. Some may have been a dwarf variety and  I put my sunglasses in the picture to give you some perspective on how small they are. Others were yolky yellow and others just creamy with yolky centers. Lovely. Lovely. We did veer off the trail briefly and there was water standing all along the road, shimmering iridescently in the sun. Swamp water;0D  Glorious swamp water!

Saturday, I began sorting through my gear and getting my head wrapped around what I need and where it is, how well it works, and what needs to be updated. My sweet husband had recently bought me a new tent, which I thought was a Eureka solo. Because I was so sure I knew what it was, I never actually opened it. This weekend, I did put it up, to be sure that everything was there, and that I could manage what I needed inside the tent, only to find out that it’s a quarter dome. Joy! There will be no stealth camping with that vibrant Yeller tent, though;0)

Though I don’t remember doing any especially strenuous cycling this weekend, my muscles say I’ve done well. Glutes and hamstrings are expounding upon their existence, as are my quads. This makes me happy.

Gotta go. There is so much to do with my equipment and getting Itzhak ready to take to REI. Go make your own breeze and remember: if you’re not having fun; you’re in the wrong gear.
