Joy on the road

It’s been several days since I’ve posted. We are having a great time. We stayed in a very cheesy motel in Simmesport, La on the 24th, cycled out early and have seen a lot of other cyclists going in the other direction. When I stopped at a convenience store, just outside of Simmesport, there was a taxidermied 12 foot alligator in the store, that was killed within a few miles of the store. We crossed the Mississippi river, traveling one day on the Mississippi river trail and not seeing the river for once because of the levee. You can’t go up on or over the levee because it’s posted as private property with strong warmings. I saw an eagle nesting in the Mississippi flood plain and within a mile, had a flat tire on the BOB.

It was quick to change, but even after a good patch job, the tube was leaking. Some gentlemen in the cafe I had stopped at drove to the Walmart and picked up a couple of 16″ slime tubes and another patch kit for me. Very kind.

My companion was dealing with some difficulties of her own, so the day could have been challenging, but instead, every challenge had a very positive outcome. This included the fac tthat when I changed the tube, I left a bungee dangling and ultimately, it wrapped itself around my cassette and snapped at the same time it disabled my chain. Fortunately, there was no permanent damage.

We stayed at a Wonderful RV campground in Morganza. It was very clean, kind to cyclists, clean bathrooms, close to a convenience store and cafe and had a laundrymat on premises. Then we stayed with “The Cajun Pedaler”. If you are a Crazy Guy member, or Warmshowers member, you need to take advantage of their hospitality some time.

Today, we cycled through a fun little town named Clinton, LA. We had lunch at a 3 week old cafe. LOVED IT! and met the grandmother of the new proprietor, Mama Me. Hope you get the chance to stop in and have home-made po boys, muffalatta, or pie. The town is full of friendly Lousianienne’s.

I also did a little shopping for things to send home…. to myself;0)

We seem to be having a great time.

Go make your own breeze and remember: if you’re not having fun; you’re in the wrong gear.

I’ll have to add pictures in a day or so.
