I’m checking things off the “to do” list daily. The broken bike rack is going to the P.O. right now. We opted for some very large duffle bags as luggage, as they can be rolled up and stowed fairly compactly during our time in Seattle.
Arrangements have been made for accommodations. We are spending a couple of days on Vashon Island. There is a nice hostel there that has been recommended to us, and a lovely couple on the island has offered to host us as campers also. Hopefully, it will work out for us to stay with the sweet couple. They are cyclists and it would be a more personal experience.
Dinner with a touring friend last night was awesome. It’s going to be hard to be away from my friends here for so long. E-mail with news from home, and just encouragement is invaluable;0)
Itzhak, the touring bike, is just 2 days from his arrival in Seattle. He gets there on Friday, gets re-assembled at REI, then I pick him up on Sunday. While at REI, I’ll pick up a new sleeping bag that I ordered online from REI outlet.com and had shipped there. It’s easier than carrying everything with me. At that point, I’ll have to pick up my stove fuel (can’t carry that on the plane) and a few other items. My swiss army knife and multi-tool will be packed in the checked baggage, so it can be transported.
We are adding things to our “must see” list now, so right now, we have:
1. Pike Place
2. Space Needle
3. Bainbridge Island
4. Vashon Island
5. Dinner/meals on the waterfront as often as possible
6. Woodland Park Zoo
7. Mt. Ranier
8.Smith Tower Observation Deck
9. Pacific Science Center’s Tropical Butterfly House
10.Seattle Aquarium and a whale watch?????
And if we have time, we may opt to not do some of the above, and go to the San Juan Islands. We will definitely follow recommendations of friends here, and new friends there. Stay tuned!
Go make your own breeze, and remember: if you’re not having fun; you’re in the wrong gear!
Spent a few days in Seattle last fall. You should add the Seattle Underground to your list. My wife’s a great fan of zoos and aquariums, so we had to do both. If you’re a fan, they’re OK. If not (me), they’re like others all over the place.
You’ll enjoy the place though. Very bike friendly, and lots of commuters downtown and in the ‘burbs all the time.
Have fun, and a safe start to your journey.
Is the broken bike rack the one that broke on the Waverly ride? Did the company decide to take it back? I’ve been wondering what happened with that.
Hope you have an easy, breezy start to the next leg of your adventure!
It is that one. They wanted it returned in hopes of finding out what the defect was. They also settled with me for the damage on the car.
